If you’ve booked a flight with Japan Airlines and now want to cancel, here’s everything you need to know. Japan Airlines allows frequent flyers to cancel their trip for any reason. If we are not careful, we may have an emergency. It could be an emergency, an illness, an unfavourable situation, a court order, or any other valid reason.

Air travellers can cancel their domestic and international reservations booked with Japan Airlines by following the instructions in the applicable policy.

  • There is also no way to cancel a standard ticket.
  • You will be charged for ticket cancellation on the day of travel.
  • Similarly, if the customer cancels the ticket after the departure date, there will be no refund.
  • Refundable tickets are subject to cancellation and a full refund. However, there may be a cancellation fee.
  • If the flight is delayed more than four hours, the cancellation fee will be refunded.

Refund Policy for Japan Airlines

These provisions are expected to be incorporated into the airline’s refund policy for passengers.

  • If you cancel your flight within 24 hours of booking your flight, you will receive a full refund.
  • Commercial/award ticket cancellations do not result in refunds.
  • Customers will also not receive compensation if their reservation is cancelled after the checkout period.
  • Japan Airlines offers refunds after appropriate deductions in certain circumstances.
  • Also, if the airline cancels the flight, you are entitled to a full refund.

Flight Cancellation Fee on Japan Airlines

If a customer cancels a ticket within a certain period, no money is paid in tickets. You will need to pay between $100 and $400 to cancel a business restricted ticket.

Even so, the entire ticket fee is going to be charged as a deduction for currency exchange tickets, currency restricted tickets and promotional tickets.

Cancellation of Japan Airlines within 24 hours

In the U.S. Under Department of Transportation regulations, Japan Airlines’ 24-hour cancellation policy applies to all airline tickets to or from the United States. According to this rule, if you book a flight to or from the U.S. a, you can hold your booking for 24 hours at the suggested price, or cancel and refund within 24 hours of purchase, as long as you purchase the ticket for at least 7 days before departure. 

Requirements For Online Cancellations

You can only cancel your reservation online if you meet the following criteria: 

  • You purchase your ticket using the JAL website/mobile app.
  • You paid for your ticket using credit card/eJAL points.
  • No bid upgrades/upgrade rewards are included in your flight booking.
  • You didn’t get on your flight.
  • If your ticket has a cancellation fee and the system charges for you, you should contact the Japan Airlines office in your city/country to obtain a refund.
  • If no cancellation fee is paid and you are eligible for a full refund, a cancellation message will appear on the cancellation summary page.
  • If you are unable to redeem your ticket online using JAL’s website, you can fill out JAL’s online international refund application form.

How to Calculate the Japan Airlines Refundable Amount

Ticket refunds and EMDs are calculated in accordance with Japan Airlines’ flight cancellation policies, as detailed below.

Tickets

  • Before you start the journey. All tickets, taxes and fees paid less cancellation fees specified in the fare rules will be refunded.
  • After the journey begins. The refund shall be the difference between the rent and taxes  including the fare of rent, taxes and administrative expenses, less a deduction applicable to rent legally excluded. 

Electronic Miscellaneous Documents

Charges and unused fees may be refunded as a result of ticket changes.

Some EMDs are not always entitled to a refund based on the payment method used at the time of purchase.

Time to implement the refund

The timeframe for Japan Airlines to process the refund depends on how you bought the ticket—credit card or cash.

Credit card purchases can be refunded to the credit card account you used to purchase the ticket/EMD and appear on your bill in approximately 2 months. It can take longer if you need to differentiate from other airlines.

Subject to the transfer fee at the passenger’s expense, the purchased amount may be refunded to the nominated bank account within two weeks of receipt of the refund application. In most cases money will be sent to the passenger selected on the ticket.If changes are required with other airlines, additional time could be required.
